“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 NKJV
I remember hearing a story of a missionary in Canada who went to preach the gospel on the streets one day as was his custom. He met a young woman and said to her, “Woman, Jesus loves you so much that He died for you.” The woman looked at Him shocked and said, “I don’t know this Jesus and I never asked Him to die for me.”
Like this woman, there are many people out there who may have heard about Jesus and that He died for them however, they don’t know why He had to die, especially for them.
Christians in this season have the responsibility to educate the world why Jesus had to die and why His death shows how much He loves us.
So why did Jesus have to die?
Simply put, because if He didn’t die, we would have to die.
The Bible says, the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) , and all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We all have sinned, therefore we deserved to die. God is a just judge and will always stick to His word which is truth. When Adam and Eve committed the sin of disobedience, they received the just punishment for their actions; separation from God. All who sin, whether great or small will face the same punishment but God who is rich in love will not want His children separated from Him forever therefore He sent Jesus Christ to reconcile us to Himself through His death on the cross. Hallelujah!
Let’s make this season about the ‘Why’. Why did He have to die? Why are we Christians? Why must we follow Him?
Many are fasting this period and many are in sober reflections. I encourage you to join Christians all over the world to ask thought provoking questions that will strengthen your faith. And as your faith is strengthened, you can help others understand ‘why’.
Blessings unto you brothers and sisters.
