Text - 1 Corinthians 2:10-16
This scripture shows the limitation of the human mind and postulates that it cannot be compared with God's wisdom; what a man's mind can achieve is nothing near what the Spirit can reveal.
Paul writes that as Christians, we have not received the spirit of the world which only accepts those things we can observe for ourselves and work out with human wisdom and reason but the Spirit of God that makes all spiritual truth known to us. We enjoy the privilege of the gospel revelation, a free gift of God and a distribution of His grace such that mysteries are made plain, prophecies are interpreted, the secret counsels of God are made known and open to us by His Spirit and His wisdom is made manifest to us as His saints.
Scripture is given by the inspiration of God so the Spirit teaches us because He has the exact knowledge of all things and enters into the depths of God; we accept and understand because we believe in the cross and trust in Christ for salvation.
The natural man has no regard for spiritual things; he cannot understand nor believe certain spiritual realities or principles because the absence of a relationship with the Holy Spirit, stands as a barrier. Hence the questions and mysteries that trouble the natural man about God will remain troubling until the answers are being revealed to him by the Holy Spirit.
Just as a blind person cannot experience the beauty of the sunset nor the deaf man, the glories of the symphony, because they lack the capacity, so will an unbeliever - one who does not submit to the authority of the Holy Spirit and whose affections are to the flesh - not understand spiritual truths or activities; they look upon these things as absurd and contrary to reason.
It could be quite frustrating when people are not receptive of the gospel when we preach and it could even make us feel inadequate sometimes but we must know and wholeheartedly accept that
We cannot change people's hearts by force, through clever arguments or apologetic prowess. It is not within our ability to make people accept the truth or authority of Scripture as they only do so if the Spirit precedes and performs a work of supernatural grace by His divine power.
What then is within our ability? To the lost and unbelieving, grace to show mercy and love. We must not despair in praying for them but continuously beseech the Spirit to open their heart, so that when we have presented that which is most needful for them to see, they will have the eyes to see it and the heart to accept it.
Lastly, I encourage you to keep striving after righteousness and holiness. The lifestyle of the unbeliever is only so because they have no understanding of the joy of walking in fellowship with God but you have received and accepted such grace from God, must not take it for granted.
May God keep us ever conscious of the future life He has prepared for us and open the eyes of men to the things only the Spirit can reveal.
