Text - Jonah 1:1-7
A little Recap! Last week, we talked about Uncle Jo and his disobedience to God. We saw the possibilities and ways that we as Christians today likely make the same mistake when God chooses us to work on his vineyard! Many times, we don’t even know when we disobey like Uncle Jo because we aren’t focused on His call to our lives. I hope we adjusted a bit from last week's lesson and therefore let’s head off for today!
Today, let’s see more ways as to how we ignore God’s call or will for our lives and therefore head to the wring direction jut like Jonah did!
Jonah Choose not being a Prophet over the people of Nineveh repenting
Now Uncle Jo, didn’t want to be a prophet of the Lord anymore rather than going ahead to preach to the people of Nineveh. He decided to end everything he had been doing to please the Lord, everything that brought him closer to God, everything that ever made him worthy before the Lord just so he wouldn’t go to save other unbelievers. Christians today exhibit the same character.
We choose friends, work, school or any form of self pleasure over actually standing up and preaching Christ. We are so much ashamed to declare Christ to anyone so we restrict His light in us and act as though we don’t know Him.
Young people find it hard to “Say I Won’t” and struggle to maintain their social status.
Also avoid a wrong attitude towards unbelievers.
Instead of helping them to know God, Uncle Jo wanted them to rot in hell. We need to learn to hate the sin and love the sinner. It’s not an easy thing to do but its necessary. Our Lord and Savior in flesh human but in Holiness God walked 33 years among sinners and Loved them in spite of. From Matthew the Tax Collector and Simon the Zealot turned Disciples to Judas the Money Lover to the Samaritan woman, Jesus models love and compassion which is an effective evangelism strategy.
Today make effort to Love everyone the way God does
