Text - 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
Have you ever received a gift on a normal day? A day you least expect? How did you feel? Now have you ever been given a gift that came in so handy and helped you out in lots of ways? How grateful were you to the person who gave it to you? How would you feel if you gave someone a gift and the person collected it but used it carelessly even in your presence?
I remember a time I received a notepad as a gift from a friend - it was one of the best gifts I had ever received on a birthday. Apart from the fact that it was fancy and also well decorated, It came at the very time I needed it. I used that notepad to the best of my abilities and have been grateful to that friend so much. Whenever I see that notepad, I remember that very friend. Even though that gift was personal property, I am very sure every one would love the content I wrote in it.
As Christians, God has given us all gift(s) but we have neglected and carelessly displaced or misused those gifts.
Some of us don’t even care to know the content in that package we were given by God. He gave us gifts that would strengthen us, encourage us more and also create a good relationship between us and Him. But yet our nonchalant attitude to that gift he gave us saddens Him day by day. Hurtfully, some of us leave this earth without discovering what’s the content of these gifts.
The gifts we are discussing today are Spiritual gifts. God has given each and everyone of us a spiritual gift that would edify us for His service.
TO HEART
What is your Spiritual gift? Have you opened the package yet? Are you using it to His glory?
As Christians, we should each discover our Spiritual gift through the help of the Holy Spirit and also work with it to glorify God. Verse 7 of our reading today says, A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. We are meant to help each other with the gift given to us. We are supposed to accept this gift happily and also use it well. Each one of us is equipped with a Spiritual gift but it only takes our dedication and willingness to Christ before we can discover that gift. So pray to God, ask the Holy Spirit to help you discover your gift. God help us all.
