Text - 1 Samuel 7; Matthew 6:25,33
A few days into the year, I began to think of what I'd do this year. Things I think I need to achieve, things I need to get, how to prove myself this year to my friends, family, and God. I had a couple of things on my list and started to make plans on how to achieve them but the annual fasting and prayer started and as I prayed sometime last week, I read the story of David in our text.
David had just moved into his new house and he felt unease knowing that God was still in a tent so he proposed to build a temple for God. Prophet Nathan thought it a good idea but God had other plans. Although God didn't want David building his house, he was pleased at the thought and blessed him immensely! His entire generation was blessed because he sought to do something for God.
The Easy to Read Version (ERV) in verse 25 of Matthew 6 puts it so plainly; ''Don't worry about the things you need to live...What you should want most is God's kingdom and doing what he wants you to do. Then He will give you the things you need."
Basically, there's a way to getting all you need. Unnecessary worry will stress you physically, mentally and emotionally. Have you ever solved a problem using it's formula and not gotten the answer?
I can't say for sure if David was worried about the heritage he will leave for his children but a rational father and king would definitely think of those things. If the throne will be remain in his family, what would become of his children etc. He thought to do something for God and the things that would have worried him were taken care of, imagine if he actually had done it...
It's not too late to seek God's will, His purpose. He is always willing to speak if we are willing to listen, so ask, “God, what would you have me do for You this year?” Ask Him sincerely, obey and watch your needs met, before you even have the chance to labour for them.
It's almost impossible to fail if you apply the formula correctly.
