Text - Psalm 3:1-3
“Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
Why I love captain America’s shield is because it’s closer in definition to the way God defends us. Captain America’s shield not only defends him from the attacks of the enemy but for him, it is also an offensive weapon. In the same way, God, our shield, defends us and also fights our battles.
The enemy is like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He is working overtime to make sure we fall but those who trust in the Lord shall not be shaken.
He throws at us weapons of doubt, despair, shame, guilt, pestilence, disease, etc. but we have a shield that protects us from them all.
King David, a man of war, who never lost a battle, knew God in this capacity so well therefore he had this to say:
“We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” - Psalms 33:20-22 NIV
What keeps us confident is our trust in God’s unfailing love. When facing fear, depression, opposition, health challenges, etc. we should trust in God’s unfailing love.
Lack of confidence in God only gives way to doubt and fear but we should always remember that for as many as have received the spirit of God have received a spirit of confidence, love, and a sound mind. This confidence is needed in facing the devil.
Have you watched any of the avengers go into battle with fear? They know what sort of weapons they have so they go into battle. Even if there is any fear, that fear is conquered by inspired confidence. David, a small boy, faced his fears head on because he believed in a God who could deliver him.
When you begin to believe you’re shielded, your confidence increases and you dare to trust God even in the most critical situations.
He is the God who cares for you. Your confidence should be in Him.
The devil wants you to believe that God will not help you while God wants you to believe that He’s your ever present help in time of need. Whose report will you believe?
