Text - Rev 3:20
So make my heart Your home. All that's mine is Yours - Maverick City Music
It’s December already! Can you believe it! Yesterday it was January 1st and today it’s December 1st. Tomorrow it might just be January 1st 2023! God is faithful! In other news, Christmas is 2 days away! I can imagine the anticipation if you’re like me and a sucker for Christmas!
There’s a mistake I often make (and I believe you might also). I often ‘judge’ the bible and its characters for how they acted. For Example, I often judge the Israelites for their sin cycles but then I find myself caught up in the same web and I am humbled. I apply this same principle to the people of Bethlehem at the time Christ was born.
I find myself wondering how there was no room! I wonder if the hearts of the innkeepers were not burning within them as they spoke to Mary and Joseph, or if the start the wise men were following was not the brightest in Bethlehem. I find myself wondering how a pregnant woman in labour was not attended to as an emergency by all who encountered the couple. I wonder if there was not one man in Bethlehem in tune with God’s word and understanding the times.
But then I realize how not so different from the people of Bethlehem I am. How I find it hard to make room for the baby King born in the manger. How the things of life and even ‘God’s’ work choke up my life and make no space for the King.
The difference between Mary and the people of Bethlehem is simple - She made Room in her heart.
Folks. God has been writing a story from time immemorial and your existence is part of that grand story.
All things were created for his glory - including you. There’s a reason you are here. There’s a reason God sent you to this broken frail world.
God has a plan. An exceedingly abundantly above all one written before you were. But he doesn’t force it on us. The same question God has asked through the ages is now being asked to you;
Is there room in your Heart? For God to write his story?
I pray this December is a time of reflection for you. I pray that you enter 2023 with a willing heart and an open canvas. I pray you to let God write his story. And I pray you to play your part in the divine story God is writing.
