Text - James 4:6
“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”
God, the creator of the universe and of all mankind, has a lot to offer. The scriptures tell us of His might and His power. His power that raised Jesus from the dead, His infinite riches and His divine wisdom.
A hymn writer talks about the wealth and abundance of God in this way:
His love has no limit, His grace has no measure
His pow'r has no boundary known unto men
God is indeed omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent as we have described Him to be but the problem is that many don’t know how to receive from Him.
Because He made us beautiful and so wonderful, man has the tendency to fall into pride time and again just like satan. We put blame on satan for wanting to take the place of God not knowing that we also fall into the same temptation.
Satan was described as a beautiful cherub decked with all sorts of ornaments, with musical instruments installed in him, and endowed with wisdom. Man like satan has been blessed with this.
The Bible says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We dress so beautifully, many have acquired so much riches, many have sung beautiful melodies and many through human wisdom have achieved great feats. Because of this, we fall into pride.
Adam wanted to be like God, Pharaoh took the place of God, same thing with Nebudcadnezzar and Herod. All through history men have fallen into the same sin as satan and have found God resist and rebuke them. No man can receive from God with such a heart.
Yes, we have done well and even what we have done through history is by the grace of God. If only we can learn to recognize that all we have achieved doesn’t stand close to what God can do, then we can truly begin to receive more from Him. No wonder He says He gives more grace. He also says in the book of Isaiah 55:9:
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
God has a lot to offer, only if we can truly be humble enough to know that we know nothing and for eternity we will keep receiving from Him as His wisdom, power and wealth can never be exhausted.
The same hymn writer says again:
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.
May God grant us humble hearts that we may keep on receiving from Him to bless our world.
