Text - Matthew 25:14-30
Initially I wanted to write about how trustworthy God is and how we can trust him in the deepest and darkest moments of our lives but recent events have made me change the message for today. I like to consider this more of a reminder than a message though and I hope that as you read the lord would speak to the deepest parts of your heart.
It's very scary how people die and after being mourned for one day or a week, the rest of the world just forgets about them and moves on. I know the song writer said we'd only be remembered by what we have done, but the truth is that the more time passes and new generations are born, the more even that impact fades away until nothing is remembered anymore.
As believers it's amazing to know that death isn't the end for us, in fact it's the very beginning of a glorious eternity, but what about those who surround us.
Think about that classmate, that colleague, that casual friend who you say hi to everyday, that neighbor who you see everyday or even that relative whom you love so much but isn't saved, what would you want their stories to be when their end finally comes? What would you want the aftermath of their death to be.
It breaks my heart sincerely that as believers we're so nonchalant about the ones who surround us that all we care about is the fact that we would and should make heaven, not caring that thousands of souls might not make it alongside with us.
A while ago on this blog our main topic was about light but I need you to ask yourself just how much light you've shared between now and then. Beyond wanting people to think that you're good or nice, beyond giving an helping hand because it'd look bad if you didn't, and amidst a whole lot of other things we do that seems right, how much of Jesus have you showed to the little circle around you.
We talk about taking Jesus and burning for him to nations beyond the earth, but like the servant in our text what have you done with the little your master has placed in your hands. What report can you give about the little assignments you've been given? Are you even any different from them in terms of character?
When those who surround you one day get taken away by death, Will your hope be in the fact that they truly have found rest in peace with their maker? or will you be uncertain till the day when you can see them again?
To Heart
If you've truly had a taste of Jesus and you're doing Christianity right, everyone around you deserves to have the same experience. That is after all how we burn the world.
