Text - Proverbs 24:29 KJV
"Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work"
In other words, this phrase can mean getting even with someone. Another name for this is, vengeance or retaliation. There's the false notion that when you do back the evil that has been done to you, you are at ease and justice has prevailed. Well, the Lord makes us to understand that the fight is His and not ours (Hebrews 10:30).
This street theology of getting even at all cost is no respecter of person - the plague cuts across people of all ages. Our media platforms have not spared us as well from this belief system, with movies and songs all heralding the sound of sweet vengeance and retribution. The outcome of this wrong mindset has left many bitter, frustrated and not having a beautiful walk with God.
I know it may seem like justice is slow towards the wrong doer and you just feel like taking a pound of your flesh.
Do not be discouraged, our God is the God of justice
and He has made available to us the justice system to help us channel our grievances. Even though the human justice system may not always achieve the aim of total justice, be rest assured that as long as justice and righteousness are the habitation of His throne, He will do justice on your behalf (Psalm 97:2).
Whether it be a petty offence or a grave one, don't go with what the world emphasises - that is getting even. Forgive the individual(s), if its a continuing wrong being done to you and bring it to God in prayer. If it demands you having to talk with the offender, do so in love and resolve things amicably.
If it consequently requires legal action, please do so and let God fight His cause over your life.
Following the belief of: Do me, I do you will only lead to unending dissatisfaction, self loathing, enmity with others and distance from God.
Love so much that it does not matter, and let God be God.
So next time someone encourages you to do your own back remind them that, you are called to love and that your God will fight the fight for you.
The whole mindset behind most street theologies is to do as you please. The only right theology for you as a child of God is to act only in line with God's word.
ONLY when it's in line with God’s word.
It's well with you beloved.
