Text: Exodus 16:16
A particular line from the song Jireh by Elevation Worship and Maverick City (link at the bottom; please listen if you haven’t) has made a lasting impression on my heart: “Forever enough, always enough, more than enough”.
Take a minute to run your mind through all the instances in the Bible when God manifested Himself as Jehovah Jireh (the God who provides), both in the Old and New Testaments. Whether it was showing up through the prophet Elisha for the widow of Zarephath or Jesus multiplying the fish and bread, one thing was constant all through; enough.
In all the stories we never once read where someone said “Hey, God, can I please get some more? This will not be enough”. Not one time. Why?
Because when God meets our needs, He always meets them sufficiently.
We often use parents when citing these examples, because – under normal circumstances – they’re the people anyone depends on the most. Parents will do all they can to make sure their children have what they need, yet there are still situations of shortage and managing. That is the human factor.
Apart from the fact that God loves you a whole unquantifiable lot more than your human parents and is therefore even more committed to providing for you, there’s also the point that He can afford to. Philippians 4:19 says “My God will use his glorious riches to give you everything you need” (Easy-to-Read Version). Glorious riches! That undoubtedly speaks of wealth beyond human imagination. There’s nothing like “I can’t afford this now” or “this is too expensive” with God because He is rich enough to do “exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or imagine”. Doesn’t that thought just make you feel warm on the inside?
There’s even more good news!
Material/financial needs are important, but that’s not the limit for our God.
His glorious riches are available to meet spiritual, emotional, mental, medical, physical, even social and relational needs too. Whether you need money to meet a need or you’re battling with an illness or your social battery is low and you find it difficult to interact with people, God is eager – so very eager – to prove Himself as Jehovah Jireh in that situation.
There’s a common saying today “What God cannot do does not exist”. Brothers, sisters, friends, I am here to remind you – and make sure it is more than just a saying to you, but a fact – that indeed THE NEED GOD CANNOT MEET DOES NOT EXIST.
Next time you find yourself staggering under the weight of any form of lack, remember this:
God loves you so much and is willing to meet all Your needs. God has more than enough and is able to give you as much as you need of whatever you need.
