Text - Joel 2:3-11
You might have probably watched but cannot remember the Hollywood movie titled “THOR” which was released a few years back. The storyline featured an alien sent to earth by his father for a reason I can't clearly remember but he was to remain on earth for a particular period of time. One thing that fascinated me about the main character was that no matter how long he stayed on earth, he never lost sight of who he was, he remembered clearly that he was the son of a god and he did not just remember but also lived as the son of that God while on earth.
Sadly the same cannot be said for a lot of new generation Christians. I like to believe that as believers, we can be likened to the movie character THOR. Sons sent by the father to a strange land. Our bible text talks of the lord's army, a great people, mighty and terrible, one that has never been seen by the world before with such great organization led by the lord of hosts himself.
I have discovered that as believers, we live far below potential because a lot of us do not seem to remember that we hail from ZION. We seem to have forgotten that we are pilgrims in a strange land, warriors sent to hold the forth for our master and father but rather we have allowed ourselves to be carried away by the pleasures of the world and sincerely it's part of the reason why so many of us are scared of shining our light to those around us.
Forgetting our origin unfortunately also means forgetting the power that comes with that origin and so instead of walking as lions and warriors we reduce ourselves to ants and rodents and slaves that have been captured by the land we were sent to.
But chill soldiers for there is hope. Yes hope, there's a chance to break free from all of the things that have held us bound simply because of the fact that we are God's. If you still don't get it I'll explain in a lame man's language. It is often said that the apple does not fall from the tree and if we are considered son's of God it means we also carry God's gene and everything he can do we can do.
God didn't create us to be inferior or to cower in the face of that which is not like us, it's why he gave us so much power and made us higher than even the angels. You are a small God because YAWEH is inside you, a lion and no one dares to scare you because you are a descendant of the lion of the tribe of Judah. I'm saying to you today that it's okay to shine your light because it's the one thing you were saved to do.
As a soldier, when you return home from battle, the important factor isn't always that you have returned but rather if you were able to conquer the enemy. Only soldiers who fought good warfare are rewarded and not cowards who ran away. The only way we can fight good warfare as believers is to make the light in us spread to nations around the earth.
Whether we like it or not we're at war, because darkness will always like to cover the face of the earth and it is our responsibility as believers who are light to fight against this darkness and bring beauty to the world.
You must never forget you are a soldier and you are a son hence daily you must shine your light to bring glory to your father and commander.
I leave you with these words, YOU WERE SAVED TO SERVE AND BORN TO BREED.
